Timber Arched: A History
Our Timber Arched Cabins are constructed by steam-bending, a technique used in wooden boat building. The photo of Michael Grundman and Manuel Naheulquin in Chile depicts the first wooden boat construction that became the spark for his coming years as a shipwright, and the design that is completely unique to Timber Arched Cabins. The buildings are also similar in spirit to Whistler Gothic Arch Huts. These are a specific style of mountain shelter designed and built in the 1960s by the British Columbia Mountaneering Club to support mountaineering. Although their construction does not use steam bent wood, they both share a similar aesthetic.
